Pro Mod Star “Stevie Fast” Jackson Goes Out of His Way to Meet a Young Fan
You can learn a lot about a man’s character when you see what he does when it seems nobody is looking. Long time grudge badass and small tire legend turned NHRA Pro Mod standout Steve Jackson sees things differently than many. Jackson, known to most simply as Stevie Fast, knows the value of each and every fan, especially the youngsters that feed the future of the sport.
Last weekend, while he was en route to his first NHRA Pro Mod victory, Jackson encountered a young fan who was frantically trying to get a close-up look at Stevie as the crew towed his Bahrain 1 Racing Camaro through the pit area at Heartland Park Topeka. Without hesitation, Jackson stopped the car and sprinted over, giving the young race fan a quick hug and what we have to assume was a few words of thanks and encouragement, even though it seemed there were no cameras around to catch the moment. Many other racers would have continued on with their routine, but Jackson took the opportunity to solidify his standing a fan favorite and certainly made one young fan’s day.
This isn’t the first time Stevie Fast has made an impression on the sport’s youth. Several years ago, when he first started running Pro Nitrous in the ADRL series, Jackson heard that a longtime fan, a boy with vision impairment, who had been following Stevie’s small tire exploits was going to be attending an upcoming ADRL event, so Jackson made him the honorary Crew Chief for the event, allowing the young man to spend the weekend hanging out with the crew and helping work on the car at every opportunity, as well as riding with the team as they towed the car to and from the track.
If you ask anybody who knows Jackson, from the most casual fan to his closest personal friends, they will tell you this is just the man he is, and they all agree that the NHRA needs him as much as he needs the NHRA. With his unrivaled passion for the sport and innate ability to draw fans like few others in the racing world, Jackson is the ideal superstar for the worlds largest motorsports sanctioning body. Now that he’s found his “in” with the NHRA, we sincerely hope to see Jackson make he way up to the fuel ranks, which he lists as his ultimate dream ride.
