This Fully Electric $300,000 Wake Boat is the First of its Kind and Ready to Rip
In the current era of anything with an engine, our thought process is beginning to change a little bit. While electric technology really seems to be taking over the conversation, it hasn’t been that way for very long. In fact, until Tesla presented the Model S in 2012, electric power was nothing more than a gimmick. Sure, there were some electric-powered vehicles here and there but one could expect reliability and performance issues from early adopters.
Fast forward to 2020 and it’s a topic on everybody’s mind. Not only are automotive manufacturers digging into electric power but it seems like every manufacturer that uses a combustion engine is considering the alternative. The boating industry is not discluded from this practice at all.
For 2021, we’re going to see an interesting combination as an electric motor meets a ski boat. The 2021 Super Air Nautique GS22E borrows “Award-winning” features from past models and wraps them all up with an electric-powered bow on top.
Nautique claims the boat is “A first of its kind, the Super Air Nautique GS22E is a revolutionary electric towboat unlike anything else on the market today. For the ultimate on-water experience, Nautique has partnered with our sister company, Ingenity Electric, to bring the latest in electric propulsion technology to our multi-sport GS22E.”
For those wondering about performance, the brand claims that not much will be sacrificed. The only restriction that we could possibly think of is the fact that the battery will last for about 2 to 3 hours. Generally, in a boat like this, that’s plenty of run time for a day on the lake. Unless you’re planning on wakeboarding for hours at a time, this would likely be plenty to scoot around in the bay.
Nautique continues that “The award-winning Ingenity Electric system operates using clean energy that delivers optimal performance for watersports activities in an eco-friendly package. Built onto the already widely popular Super Air Nautique GS22 platform, this new GS22E is a boat ready to connect families that like to do a little of everything on the water while emitting zero-emissions.”
At the end of the day, the boat comes in with a $292,711 starting price. While that might seem wildly ridiculous to people who don’t speak boat, those who do realize that these ski boats end up sporting pretty steep price tags, electric or not.
