Volkswagen Dieselgate Cars – Where Are They Now? (Current Total Cost To VW Inside)
I remember it like it was yesterday. One moment, the automotive news corner was pretty quiet and the next, everybody’s newsfeed was erupting with the story that Volkswagen was a part of an ongoing investigation due to alleged violations of emissions regulations and tampering with systems in order to try and fool everyone so that they could make a couple more bucks. It was almost hard to believe that such a major company would make such an error and put themselves right in a big old vat of hot water but as we would later find out, things would crumble as the truth would make its way forward and Volkswagen would end up recalling an astounding amount of diesel-powered vehicles.
So, what would happen to all of these cars? After all, they did recall a ton of them that they wouldn’t be able to sell back to the public, at least not in the state that they were now. Well, the answer to that question, as of right now, is that many, if not all of them, are just sitting around and waiting.
Volkswagen has something like 300,000 cars sitting in various areas around the world just waiting on new emissions regulations so that they can be either resold or exported but until then, the $7.4 billion in buybacks, which brings the total in the cost of Dieselgate to $33 billion total for Volkswagen, are just lurking in the desert, awaiting their eventual fate.
If you follow along with the video below, you’ll be able to see the almost eerie sight as an incredible number of cars is just sitting there with nobody around. It’s a pretty big shame to see this many new cars go to waste but when you look at the predicament that Volkswagen has put themselves in, I’m not really sure how many other options they have in a situation like this.
